About TARANGO

TARANGO (A Women Development Organization) is a non-profit, national level, voluntary development organization. It was established in 1989 envisioning Women’s empowerment in the society.

Vision:

Establishment of a just and poverty-free society through women’s empowerment.

 Mission:

TARANGO is a voluntary non-government organization, which dreams of, and desires to, contribute to the establishment of a just and poverty-free society by organizing and training the most disadvantage women through its committed, dedicated and skilled workers. It further aims to make the women resourceful, skilled and production oriented by assisting them to develop their human potential and talents to promote leadership and entrepreneurship so that they can take up the responsibilities of sustainable economic activities to establish a self-reliant and gender-balanced society

Working Areas:

Our working areas are Dinajpur, Barisal, Gopalgonj, Faridpur, Gazipur, Tangail, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Lalmonirhat, and Dhaka districts.

Staff Strength: 109 (Male: 57 Female: 52)

Number of beneficiaries involved with the organization: 25,000 (approx.)

Governing Board and Management:

There are 27 members’ including-Social workers, Teachers, Businessman etc in the General Body and out of those 9 members are acting as an Executive Committee for policy making.

 Project 2:  Golden Fiber: Sustainable livelihood for jute growers and producers in  Faridpur, Gopalgonj, Funded by: UKAID

 Project 3: Jute-an eco-friendly alternative for a sustainable future, Funded by: ‘EU: Switch Asia’ funded, TX

Project: 4: Support to Farmers in the most vulnerable communities of the Chittagong Hill Tracts to ensure their food security in  Bandarban, Funded by: AIDA-AECID, Spain

Project 5: Mother and Child Health Care Support Programme in Kadambadi, Agoiljhara, Barisal, Financed by: Ms. Ruth Zumbuehl, Switzerland , Ms. Sheenagh Day, Masion Bangle,UK and TARANGO own fund.

Project 10: Strengthening of Personal Skills for Women who suffered Gender Violence in the Slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh, Funded by: AIDA-AECID, Spain

Project 11 :Sustainable Fair Trade Management System funded by Asia Fair Trade Forum

SFTMS is the new worldwide Standard for the independent certification of organizations which demonstrate Fair Trade Business practices. SFTMS is a dynamic and integrated approach for the certification of production, trading and communication. This new worldwide standard framework complements the existing Fair Trade product labeling approaches. TARANGO agreed and commits itself to be a Pilot Fair Trade Organization of WFTO Asia in the implementation of SFTMS.

  1. TARANGO was awarded a crest and certificate for the best jute diversified product-2007-08, by JDPC (Jute Diversification Promotion Corporation), Ministry of Jute & Textiles.
  2.  Agriculture production & display (3rd prize) at Bandarban Sadar in 2011 by ADB and Bangladesh Agriculture Development Institute
  3. Products of the Year in 2011 at Chelsea Flower show, UK

Aim of TARANGO in near future:

  • Expand Handicraft Market in home and abroad.
  • Initiate different projects for Livelihood Development and Economic Empowerment.
  • Explore Business education for Economic empowerment in home and abroad specially for non-semiliterate
  • Explore VSL approach for won managed Savings and Loan Associations.

Work experience with other organizations:

TARANGO has been working with other development organizations at home and abroad, such as, GTZ, CARE Afghanistan, IRC Afghanistan, MARCY Crops Afghanistan, ILO Dhaka, CDMP/UNDP, CLP/DFID Dhaka, CONCERN-Bangladesh, AIDA-SPAIN and TRAIDCRAFT Exchange Bangladesh.
