A.  Handicrafts Program:

    The function of handicrafts program is to improve the design and quality of the local handicraft in order to make them more marketable in the local and international market. The women are supported in a four-layer approach: training, supplies of raw materials, marketing and guidance into self-directed action. TARANGO works closely with several Fair-Trade organizations in Europe and was able to establish a nice market for its handcrafts products, generating a small but considerable extra income to its producers. TARANGO Works closely with several Fair-trade organizations in Home and Abroad & establish market for Handicrafts, Use of eco-friendly technologies, initiatives to reduce energy consumption and create awareness of environmental hazards, ensuring fair wages for artisans and following the Fair trade standard as WFTO members. TARANGO supports its producers in four layer approach-

    • Market oriented Skill development Training
    • New product development support
    • Environment friendly raw materials & Marketing support
    • Guidance into self-directed action

    B. Women Entrepreneurship Development Program:

    The WEDP (Women Entrepreneurship Development Program) is one of the substantial programs of TARANGO, which has started in 1997. This program aims at building the competency among rural disadvantaged women in starting and managing their own small business to earn additional income. In cooperation with GTZ (German Technical Cooperation) TARANGO developed an Entrepreneurship Development Program for non-literate Entrepreneurs. The training is based on the CEFE (Competency Based Economies Through Formation of Enterprises) approach and is highly adapted and tailored the Bangladesh environment.

    -Training & Counseling service for alternative business opportunities to various target groups

    - Business management training for farmers, craft producers.

    - Entrepreneurship for Semi and Non-literate

    -Design different Development Project through research/study & participatory approach

    - New Business Creation training Courses

    C. Village Savings and Loan Associations

    The Village Savings and Loan (VSL) model is a savings-based approach based in the community, are complementary to MFIs, tending to serve the very poor whose income is irregular and less reliable and who may not be full-time business people. After successfully complete the pilot project TARANGO awarded the contract to provide Technical Support on VSL program to its core partners. Under this contract TARANGO has provided Technical services to its 17 partners of CLP-DFID funded project for last three years for first phase of CLP project and also supplied VSL kit boxes and maintaining quality services.

    In Bangladesh, there are total 2670 VSLAs groups comprising of around 60,000 members are running self help groups.

    D.  Women Institutional Development

    1. Savings & Micro-credit and IGA

    Tarango introduced the Integrated Development Program aiming to enhance and improve the social and humanitarian aspects of the beneficiaries. Following activities are running under this program:

    • Group savings
    • Provide micro credit

    2. Social Empowerment

    TARANGO is running social empowerment programme all over the year through different development projects. This pictorial social empowerment module developed based on current social situation analysis. Aiming to enhance and improve the social and humanitarian aspects of the producers Tarango runs various programs like:

    • Leadership Training
    • Trafficking
    • Discrimination
    • Violence against Dowry
    • Awareness on environment, women human rights and forestations
    • Education & Student support
    • Health and Family Welfare Programme
    • Training on social birth attendance
